CDA's New Office Building Comes to Prominent Vista Intersection
02/07/07
Columbia-based architectural firm CDA Architects, and non-bank commercial lending firm Business Carolina, are proud to announce their plans to move into a new office building. The building will be located on the corner of Huger and Taylor, thereby giving a prominent corner in the Vista a new look this summer.

The one-story building will be approximately 15,000 SF total, with a lower-level parking garage. The low profile design has a mixture of horizontal and vertical lines.

The project will showcase sustainable design strategies. CDA will be pursuing Silver Certification through LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), the U S Green Building Council’s rating system for certifying buildings as environmentally-friendly. LEED buildings incorporate design and construction practices which significantly reduce or eliminate the negative impact of buildings on the environment and occupants. These types of design aspects can produce a healthier, more productive work space.

Such practices utilized in this facility include the following:
• Sustainable Sites: use of underground detention, and the use of under building parking to minimize heat island effect
• Water Efficiency: use of low-flow plumbing fixtures and high-efficiency irrigation
• Energy and Atmosphere: use of energy-efficient mechanical systems, high-performance glazing, and enhanced commissioning
• Material and Resources: use of local and regional materials, renewable resources and products with significant recycled content
• Enhanced Indoor Environmental Quality: includes CO2 monitoring, use of low VOC(Volatile Organic Compounds) paints, carpets, adhesives and sealants, and daylighting and views

CDA Architects’ decision to pursue LEED certification for their office reflects the firm’s commitment to sustainable design and development.

The site has been prepared and construction has begun; occupancy is slated for Fall 2007.
